The Garden of the Body contains over one hundred medicinal plants used by 16th century Humanist Erasmus to treat his many ills. The philosophical Garden of the World is based on his 1521 bestseller, The Religious Banquet. One of Brussels’ oldest gothic houses (1460-1515), Erasmus House is dedicated to the memory of influential humanist Erasmus. The museum has a collection of gothic and Renaissance furniture and art to set the scene and tell the story of his life and work. The two gardens contain philosophical rooms designed by contemporary artists where you can reflect and converse with friends. As Erasmus said, “where your friends are, there is your wealth”.
